How It Works

Worked Example
A $84 bill with an 18 percent tip and 3 people splitting it works out as follows. Tip: 84 times 0.18 equals $15.12. Total: 84 plus 15.12 equals $99.12. Per person: 99.12 divided by 3 equals $33.04.
